However, yesterday the ministry was forced to close all government schools indefinitely as angry students demanded that lessons resume, when about a of dozen police officers and students were injured when the police tried to stop students from several junior secondary schools in the area from demonstrating.

After only a few minutes the roads were littered with broken pieces of glass and stones, making it difficult for motorists to travel. When the police realised that the students had outnumbered them, they went back to call for backup and arrested some but others followed them at the station continued to throw stones and bottles, breaking windows, cars, and forcing police officers to run for cover. A few windows were broken but no officer was injured.
