What is happening to the nation of Botswana!!!!!!

Late last week, Education and Skills Development said that she would not close schools amid fears that students would riot over the fact that they have not been taught in the three weeks that public officers, among them teachers, have been on strike.

However, yesterday the ministry was forced to close all government schools indefinitely as angry students demanded that lessons resume, when about a of dozen police officers and students were injured when the police tried to stop students from several junior secondary schools in the area from demonstrating.

Students of the two local secondary schools and primary school became uncontrollable, singing struggle songs, and taunting the police who had been keeping an eye on them since the announcement midmorning.  The situation got out of hand after the riot police failed to disperse them from the roads and shops. The students started throwing stones and bottles at the police, who returned fire with teargas and rubber bullets.

After only a few minutes the roads were littered with broken pieces of glass and stones, making it difficult for motorists to travel. When the police realised that the students had outnumbered them, they went back to call for backup and arrested some but others followed them at the station continued to throw stones and bottles, breaking windows, cars, and forcing police officers to run for cover. A few windows were broken but no officer was injured.
